Barbados born, she first was a fan of reggae when she grew and then began singing by herself, when she was an teen. As a way to get away from the tensions within her family along with her parents' constant fights She began singing. In high school she joined a group of musicians and had the opportunity to meet the music producer Evan Rodgers. He was amazed by her talents. The producer asked her to relocate into New York in order to pursue a full-time career as a performer, something she readily accepted. Rihanna made her debut album, and was an instant hit.
